Caring for Your Cutting Boards

Epicurean

Care for your board

Epicurean recommends these quick and easy care tips to care for your board:

  • To clean your Epicurean cutting board, wash it with hot soapy water or simply run it through your dishwasher.
  • Your Epicurean cutting surface is a wood product (except Eco Plastic items). As with any wood product, it can warp if left in wet or damp conditions for long periods of time. To avoid warping, thoroughly dry your surface upright and on edge before storing.
  • Epicurean cutting surfaces are stain resistant, but, as with most materials, there is a possibility of staining when left in contact with highly alkaline products or foods for prolonged times. A few examples are liver, papayas, and red beets. To remove stubborn stains, try a non-abrasive household cleaner.

Care for your board

According to John Boos, the average person can extend the life of their cutting boards many years through observing their list of care rules:

1. To prepare your new block for use,  apply an even coating of Mystery Oil to all surfaces, allow to penetrate for 5 minutes, then wipe off any excess with a clean cloth or paper towel.

2. Periodically, once every several weeks, depending upon the use and household conditions, apply an even

coat of Mystery Oil to all surfaces.

3. DO NOT allow moisture of any type stand on the board for long periods of time.  Brine, water, and blood contain moisture that will soak into the wood, causing the board to expand.

4. Distribute your cutting over the entire work surface on your board so that it will wear evenly.
