CHOCOLATE-DIPPED GRANNY SMITH APPLES

October 26, 2016
Recipe by: Randy Manoni

Growing up; candy apples, caramel apples and chocolate dipped apples were a staple around Halloween. My mother would gather us around the kitchen table for what seemed like hours of fun decorating apples, and wrapping them as gifts for the season. As Halloween went by year after year, and I ate apple after apple, I realized my favorite one was the Chocolate Dipped Apple. This recipe is simple, delicious, and perfect to do with the kids. Once you make these classic Halloween treats, you’re sure to add them to your list of yearly traditions.

Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 5 Minutes
Yield: 8 Apples
Difficulty: Easy

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 Granny Smith apples
  • 8 cake pop sticks (or bamboo skewers)
  • 32 ounces semisweet milk chocolate
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (in desired)

Swiss Diamond sauce pans filed 1/2 way with water. Place a metal mixing bowl larger than the opening of the pan over the pan to create a double boiler.

  • Melt each kind of chocolate in their own mixing bowl over the boiling water, stirring consistently.
  • Dip the apples and roll around in the milk chocolate, set on wax paper for 1 minute.
  • Put walnuts in a bowl, and dip each chocolate covered apple about 1/3 of the way into the nuts if desired. Set back on wax paper to allow chocolate to fully dry.
  • Drizzle the melted dark chocolate over the apples and allow to cool /dry for 10 minutes
